ACCIS SI -- It's not all work...

While we made a good attempt at solving all the problems in college admissions, we also took the time to socialize and have fun.  Laura Schroeder, Interm Director of College Counseling at The John Cooper School, tells us about social hour.

To the beat of ‘80s tunes, I chatted with colleagues at Tuesday night’s social time.  We swapped stories, compared notes, shared summer plans and laughed about the year’s mishaps.  At times, our conversations were philosophical, grappling with the intersection of education and business, while other times we were far more practical, focusing on best practices for working with underprivileged students and navigating family dynamics.  I picked up suggestions for evening programs, my college planning curriculum for juniors and seniors, and colleges to visit.  Above all, though, I felt supported, laughing with other counselors about the issues we face.  I look forward to the ACCIS Summer Institute for many reasons, but for sure a highlight is socializing with my colleagues.  Throughout this coming year as I face a new challenge or simply need to talk through an idea, I’ll rely on one of the many colleagues I caught up with during the social.  And I can’t wait to catch up with everyone at Macalester next year!
