The Hill School, PA
OPENING FOR ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE ADVISING
Due to the departure of one of our valued staff members before the end of the school year, we would like to hear from any interested party as soon as possible. The description of the open position follows. Please note the start date: March 16, 2012. While early, we hope to begin our most important work during the spring trimester with a full team onboard; still, the starting date for the ideal candidate is somewhat flexible.
The Hill School, a boarding school founded in 1851 and set in a Pennsylvania borough that values hard work and genuineness of character, seeks an Assistant Director of College Advising. Working closely with other members of the College Advising staff to guide Hill students through the college admissions process, this Assistant/Associate Director will be responsible for educating Hill constituencies (including students and families) about college admissions issues, helping students and families navigate the actual application process, promoting The Hill's program to colleges, and providing insightful guidance to direct Hill students towards appropriate colleges and universities that fit their academic and personal needs. More specifically, responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):
* Managing a caseload of 40 to 45 sixth form (senior) students, including periodic meetings with each assigned advisee;
* Writing the official school recommendation for each assigned advisee;
* Teaching assigned sections in the school's College Forum class;
* Conducting sessions with college admissions representatives;
* Meeting with parents as appropriate;
* Actively participating in regional, state, and national professional organizations;
* Traveling to conferences and individual colleges and universities to gain greater insight about the process and to nurture and develop important professional relationships;
* Developing and planning relevant on-campus programming related to the college search process; and
* Fulfilling other residential school duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate for the position.
Ideally, a successful candidate will possess prior experience working in college counseling or college admissions at a selective institution, preferably both. The Assistant/Associate Director of College Advising will also be expected to
undertake responsibilities that are normally associated with a boarding school, such as serving on various school committees and participating in the school's athletic and residential programs. Other skills and/or qualities necessary for this position are: effective verbal and written communication skills; a genuine willingness to work closely with students; a high energy level; and, of course, a good and enduring sense of humor! A bachelor's degree is required; an M.A. degree is preferred; and, at least three years of experience within a highly selective admissions process is encouraged and desired. Letters explaining interest, resumes, and writing samples should be submitted by January 18, 2012.
Start date for this position is March 16, 2012.
