Director of College Counseling
Description
New Hampton School seeks a full-time Director of College Counseling for the 2012-13 school year. The Director reports to the Head of School, serves on the Administrative team and supervises a staff of two. Responsibilities include evaluating and improving a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate college-counseling program for students, grades 9-PG, and contributing to the strategic direction of the School. Specifically, the Director must build strong relationships with college admission officers, collaboratively construct appropriate lists, maintain student records, write recommendations, coordinate college visits and standardized testing and represent the School at regional and national meetings, conferences and workshops.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a masters in a related educational field and a minimum of five years experience serving as a college counselor or college admission officer. Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills are required as is patience and empathy for adolescents and their often-anxious parents. A sense of humor, flexibility, collegiality and independent initiative are also vital personal qualities. Additionally, successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to engaging fully in the life of a boarding school.
This is a full-time, 12-month position with the possibility of teaching, coaching or residential responsibilities. Compensation is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefit package.

Founded in 1821, New Hampton School (NHS) is an independent, nonsectarian boarding and day school for students, 9-PG. Located 90 miles north of Boston, in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire at the foot of the White Mts., NHS enrolls 305 students from 30 states and 20 countries. NHS graduates apply and attend a wide range of post secondary institutions around the country and internationally.
