Update on ACCIS Summer Programs
ACCIS Friends:
Amidst the flurry of ED and EA news rolling in for our students, I want to announce some developments for our ACCIS programs this summer.
We are now set to run two events this summer: our third annual Summer Institute, and our first ACCIS Colloquium. The Institute will be in Atlanta from Sunday, June 20, through Wednesday, June 23. Agnes Scott College will be our primary host, while Emory and Georgia Tech will host portions of the program. An optional extra tour will be available to other Atlanta colleges at the end of the Institute.
The registration fee for the Institute will be the same as last year: $500 per ACCIS member.
The Colloquium will be in Maine from Sunday, August 1, through Wednesday, August 4. Colby College will be the host, but tours to Bowdoin and Bates will also be available.
The registration fee for the Colloquium will be $400 per ACCIS member.
And looking further ahead: We are pleased to announce that Southern California will be the scene of our fourth annual Summer Institute in 2011. We are now actively working with potential host colleges as we look to keep moving our premier event around to different regions of the country.
For 2011 we also hope to offer more than one Colloquium. We'll try our first one this summer, and then look to expand next year. In addition we are beginning to explore the possibility of coordinating with groups of colleges for some "ACCIS Counselor Tours" during the 2010-2011 academic year. We all value our opportunities to come together for professional development in the summer, but we also want to get groups of us together during the school year. The combination of campus visits and professional development could be productive.
So stay tuned for more news in the months ahead. Our goal is to make actual registration forms for the Institute and Colloquium available on the ACCIS website early in the new year and to post more specifics about the content and schedule as they become available. But we hope that this date and cost information will help you to plan your summer. And far off as it seems right now, summer will surely come!
Best wishes to all - Burke
