Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling
Severn School seeks a full-time, energetic Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling for the 2012-13 school year. Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is for 10 months per year with some summer duties.
Founded in 1914, Severn is a coeducational 6-12 independent school with 600 students located on the banks of the Severn River in Severna Park, MD in the heart of the Washington-Baltimore-Annapolis triangle. The Upper School enrolls 400 students and is a member of the Cum Laude Society; our students matriculate to a wide variety of colleges, including the most selective. Severn students are known for balancing rigorous academics with a commitment to athletics and the arts; Severn faculty members are dedicated to knowing and valuing each student in a 10:1 student/faculty ratio.
The Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling works closely with the Director of College Counseling in a collegial office, guiding juniors, seniors, parents, and faculty in the college process, and teaching Senior and Junior Seminars as related to the college and decision-making processes. S/he works directly with half of each of the junior and senior classes, meets with underclassmen throughout the year and also will coordinate PSAT and AP testing. Other duties may include teaching, coaching, and/or advising students or clubs. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, both in writing and public speaking, strong organizational skills, and the primary counseling skills of listening and reflecting.
