Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling

Position begins July 1, 2012

Sewickley Academy, a private, coed, college-preparatory day school in Sewickley, Pennsylvania (about twelve miles outside of Pittsburgh), seeks an energetic, experienced professional to join its college counseling staff. The staff consists of two full-time college counselors and a registrar. Each counselor works with between 35 and 40 students and parents in each graduating class and assumes some additional duties within the school community (for example, academic advising, coaching, serving on committees). The typical college counseling responsibilities include providing each family with individualized guidance through the college search and application process, meeting regularly with Grade 11 and 12 students and parents, teaching a College Seminar course for juniors and seniors, writing the official school letter of support for assigned seniors, maintaining strong relationships with college admission representatives, and helping to coordinate evening programs. Counselors are expected to attend NACAC, ACCIS, PACAC, and other conferences and college tours.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

*         Three to five years of experience in college guidance or highly selective college admissions

*         A demonstrated knowledge of the college application process

*         The ability to interact with a diverse student population with wide-ranging talents

*         The ability to write a uniquely crafted letter of recommendation for each student

*         The ability to speak well in front of groups

*         The ability to prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities
